By James Spann

In the past, as people simply going to work out while they worked. Manual labor involved lots of physical activity, so they didn't have to implement a workout regime into their daily routines. As a result of that, people today has to to find ways to exercise for their own good, considering many work in offices. This is where extreme fitness can give people the best of both worlds, or a good workout without having to invest too much time.

This concept is sweeping the nation because the challenging workouts have been found to provide the most benefits. With them, people can maintain their weight, reach their weight-loss goals, and of course, get fit and maintain that level of fitness throughout life. The important thing however, is to progress at a proper pace. Those who jump right into extreme workouts may actually cause themselves more harm than good, injuring their muscles, or even causing other more serious injuries to themselves.

One very popular program is known as CrossFit. It was developed in the year 2000, and focused on strengthening the body, promoting flexibility and cardio endurance. It uses gymnastics and aerobic exercise, as well as weightlifting and many other beneficial types of exercise.

The Tabata protocol is another example. It is also a high-intensity interval training involves intense training for 20 seconds, followed by a 10 second rest period. It goes on for a total of four minutes. This was created by a doctor with the same name from Japan, and his team of highly respected researchers who studied high intensity intermittent training.

The research was studied and tested for several weeks. The group of researchers found very impressive results, which demonstrated a huge improvement in the subjects' oxygen consumption and anaerobic capacity. They were even proved that these four minute workouts can produce better results than endurance exercise lasting over an hour.

The benefits and harmful effects of extreme workouts have been carefully measured with regards to intense workouts. This is been proven, especially by the team in the Tabata regime. The only thing is that people should be careful not to over extend themselves if they aren't already fit. In such a case, it would be highly recommended for people to gradually reach these levels before engaging in more challenging workouts.

Being physically fit brings many benefits to people. It keeps them healthier overall, building a stronger immune system and fending off chronic diseases, like diabetes, for example. It means the possibility of living a longer life, and one where there is quality of life. It can allow people to be independent throughout their lives, experience more energy and a sharper mind.
