Things To Consider For Better Pitching Mechanics

By Lela Perkins

There are certain things that one will need to think about for pitching mechanics. The first one is the windup. It is important to know what the purpose of the windup for the sake of the pitch that one throws. The windup is necessary if the player wants to build momentum and potential energy that will lead up to the pitch delivery.

Think about the starting position as well. The pitcher should find a starting position where he will be comfortable. Also, find a place to stay in on the pitcher's rubber. How comfortable one feels at the said plate will depend on the pitcher. There is no given nor formula for this starting position. Only the pitcher's discretion.

Pay attention to the pitcher's first step. Remember that the first step is what will lead towards building the momentum. The pitcher should start by taking a small step either behind the rubber or to the side. It will be up to the pitcher to decide what his first step will be. Just make sure that one is comfortable with it.

There is the leg lift as well. This is an important stage during the delivery of the pitch. Every pitch that the pitcher will do during a game will require a leg lift. The pitcher should know how to do the leg lift well so that the pitch will be delivered properly. It will be less struggle for the pitcher if the proper leg lift is followed.

It is also appropriate to know what the balance point is. The balance point actually needs to be complemented by the proper leg lift. If the pitchers starts the windup with a leg lift, it is still important to maintain proper balance. To find the balance point, one should pause a little bit during the peak of the leg lift.

The player's stride will have a big impact on the force of the pitch one makes. The player should know that the velocity of the pitches will be greatly influenced by how well one strides. The more excellent the stride is, the higher the potential for the velocity of the player's pitches.

The foot strike should then be considered. This foot strike is when one's lead foot strikes the ground forcefully. With this kind of action, the pitcher will generate kinetic energy to the hips and core, along with the upper body and straight into the arm whip. This will improve the pitcher's arm speed and thus throw harder.

Be sure to pay attention to the release point and the follow through as well. The release point should be correct if the pitcher wants to enjoy a good pitch. If the release is too early or too late, the pitch will either become a dead ball or a foul ball. This will be a difficult pitch to control so there may be accidents that will occur.

The form during the pitch delivery should be captured as well. The best way to do so is to make use of a video camera. The person should capture the form and analyze it with one's capabilities. It will further help the person analyze this form, especially since it is helpful for anyone who are learning pitching mechanics.
